I want video from inside the vehicle.

no such force...demonstration of inertia
160 days ago by physicsguy
er...there is centripetal force. This just doesn't demonstrate it. it instead demonstrates inertia. centripetal force acts towards the center.

There's no such thing as centrifugal force.

Who said this?

Centripetal force is a center-seeking force (i.e. gravity). Centrifugal force is a center-fleeing force (i.e. a shockwave from a bomb). Both exist in reality (the latter is far less common), but this isn't an example of either.

Surely if it demonstrates the effect of the tangential component of the bikers velocity.

The centripetal force here is equal to the "normal" force, or the force exerted ON the bikers BY the wall. This is the force that corrects their inertial momentum, which is the force exerted ON the wall BY the bikers. As a side note, the tangential force away from Earth, counteracting gravity, is due to the lateral static friction of their tires.

for fucks sake..this is CENTRIFUGAL force..here, the force is the gavitational force multiplied by the angle at which the bikes are travelling. friction and the speed of the vehicle also comes in to play.. Besides, this is not a show of any force at all..You can usually find this show in all fairs in India..It is normally called as the pit of death....Sometimes they also do it in an enclosed globe...( a big sphere made of grills. It usially has a radius of 6 or 7 metres...its kiada awsome..

centrifugal force [(sen-trif-yuh-guhl, sen-trif-uh-guhl)] A force that tends to move objects away from the center in a system undergoing circular motion. Centrifugal force keeps the water in a whirling bucket from spilling or throws a rider in a car against the door when the car goes around a sharp curve. Centrifugal force is actually a form of inertia. So its not centripetal its centrifugal force, or a form of inertia

Centrifugal, centripetal, there we go again. Actually, the discussion is nonsensical. The guy on the bike feels an outward pull, so in his reference frame there's definitely a centrifugal force. However, it's not a "real" force, it's a pseudo-force, an artefact from him being in an accelerating reference frame.

It's done by witches!!

Witches get to do all the cool stuff. ;)

There is a centripetal force, it's the force that the wall exerts on the bike, at all points it points towards the axis of the cylinder ( /-). The Centrifugal Force is just a term from the rider's perspective. The wall is vertical (nearly) making the gravity only come into play when you're questioning friction This isn't much of a demonstration of inertia because the riders are accelerating inwards at all points ( /-).

your a complete dumb ass that needs to go back to school and lean about physics i fucking knew that when i was 6 that that was possible. PS. your a fuckin moron

Can't you tell sarcasm when you read it. PS. You probably should go back to school to learn punctuation. Forget the physics for now. PPS. Your a douche!

It's not fake. I've seen similar examples of centrifugal force before. This has been done many times before. http://www.floors4u.net/

Very cool. I'd like to do this, but in a even shittier car. Like an SRT4.

What happens if the engine stops? Goodbye to hollywood

it is a demonstration of both centripetal force and friction. centripetal because it is a inwards force from the walls on the car which causes friction, the upwards force that sustains the car and bike. it makes more sense to say centripetal because the usual frame of reference is fixed on the earth's surface.

in regards to the centripetal force issue http://xkcd.com/123/
141 days ago by ugh
There is no such thing as centripetal force. its centrifugal. I'm in the damn class right now. and we're studying this.

Then you learnt WRONG. Listen next time, or get a better teacher.

Force this.. force that.... It's Testicular Fortitude!! Now...... May the Force be with YOU!

why can't you people just look at the bloody video without fighting each other what type of force was this? it was the force of courage anyway

Ut's man force! I'd like to see a woman try that. Bitch better have my lunch ready before she does.

No centrifugal force? A laughable claim, perpetuated by overzealous teachers of science. Simply construct Newton's laws in a rotating system, and you will see a centrifugal force term appear as plain as day.

God dammit you people make me seem normal. Who gives a shit what force it is? It's cool watch be happy and shut your buttholes.
