It is called "target fixation." Rider gets into a bit of trouble and ends up focusing on what s/he is going to hit, rather than keeping focused on riding the bike. Take a rider's training course. It helps.

Yeah, he was so worried about the clutch and gears that he fixated on the tree. He was fine though. Couple scrapes and a dislocated finger. The bike just had a bent front fork. We fixed that no problem.
