any one of those plastic textured pictures common on children's toys that seem to animate when you look from different angles works on the same principal as these. This is nothing new, in fact, it's very very old. You should all have known the underlying principle behind this effect just by thinking about how those oh so common novelty toys work.

Does anyone know where we can find a tutorial to create other animations such as the examples on this video? And what is the name of this type of animation? Thanks...!

I have a book of similar pictures--the horse, a bird, a giraffe--it is a lot of fun to look at, whether my intellect understands the illusion or not.

Burger King had a promotion when "Last Action Hero" came out where the cup had the separated image on it and there was a plastic sleeve that had those black lines on it. When you turned the sleeve the image moved. It was kind of a neat idea. Too bad they don't do things like that anymore. -=jF
