This is nothing new, in fact, it's very very old. You should all have known the underlying principle behind this effect just by thinking about how those oh so common novelty toys work.

Burger King had a promotion when "Last Action Hero" came out where the cup had the separated image on it and there was a plastic sleeve that had those black lines on it. When you turned the sleeve the image moved. It was kind of a neat idea. Too bad they don't do things like that anymore. -=jF
